The office of the National President of Music Label Owners and Recording Industries Association of Nigeria (MORAN) Hon. John Ewelukwa Udegbunam at Onitsha Anambra State on Monday this week was like rally ground as those who could not make it to Lagos on 11th Dec. 2012 who authorized him to collect their royalties from COSON trooped in. MORAN State Chairmen from different states were around collecting for their members who could not come and also some members collected by themselves PMAN members and other people from MORAN affiliate groups did the same. It was joy in it’s fullness as all were chatting praising and praying for Copyright Society of Nigeria- COSON-the chairman, Chief Tony Alex Okoroji, the directors, of all the staff and Nigerian Copyright Commission NCC. Some were shouting and singing some slogans like: COSON na you we know, COSON na you we de follow, COSON be our choice, COSON live forever . One young widow from Abia State passionately exclaimed “COSON you have saved me and my children from starvation this Christmas season, at least now I can buy one bag of rice and other things. COSON leaders may your days be long”. The MORAN National PRO and anti piracy chairman, Hon. Lucky Ugbaji in his own comment said “from onset I know COSON will delivered looking at Chief Tony Okoroji antecedents and now the COSON Chairman and the caliber of men and women surrounding him - movers and shakers in the industry, men of intellect and integrity” he ended by appealing to all stakeholders to join COSON because COSON has the ability to take all to the highest height. MORAN chairman Benue State Mr. Uche Idoko Emmanuel – was very happy for the COSON cheques, he received for himself and members. He also said he has a big plan to register many musicians from Benue State to enable them benefit from COSON. Anambra State MORAN Chairman in his own was brief, he said “Seeing is believing” since the announcement of 100 million Naira royalty distribution by COSON – his office has seen many stakeholders coming to pick COSON forms Also other state chairmen spoke favourably on COSON Performance.
It was a hectic battle yesterday Thursday 30th August, 2012 in Aba, Abia state. In an operation tagged “Operation Kill Piracy in Nigeria” Music Label Owners and Recording Industries Association of Nigeria – MORAN - antipiracy group with three security agents fought and arrested 28 mp3 and 4 pirates, confiscated all their laptops and conventional computers. All are in police custody. MORAN president Hon John Ewelukwa Udegbunam said we have decided totally to fight this battle ourselves and other states in this country will have their own share of this battle sponsored by - Music Label Owners and Recording Industries Association of Nigeria - MORAN- we are not going back. We must win; we own the right to all these music being pirated. It is our intellectual property- it’s our money well spent, it is our sweat, it is better we lay down our lives now for the music industry to survive tomorrow. We do not want to wait any more for anybody to fight this battle for us- we are tired of waiting- we are now taking our destiny in our hands- No stopping. My 38 years in music I have produced 35 music albums to my credit all being pirated in Nigerian markets, am I not already buried alive? what use are mine now, if the federal government or its agency cannot guaranty the safety of my products, If am totally frustrated and fights back by all means let no body blame me with all that share the same fate with me. Those who are men should join this battle for survival. AM FRUSTRATED, LET THE MUSIC PAY
